Topic: Ship-from-store inventory and fulfillment strategies for omni-channel retailers

Description: Omni-channel retailing involves many approaches to fulfilling customer orders no matter where the demand occurs, by utilizing inventory everywhere in the system. I will discuss one particular strategy called ship-from-store (or, store fulfillment) where online orders are filled by a brick-and-mortar store. Three levels of decisions are considered: 1) should inventory be positioned in both channels, 2) how much inventory, and 3) how to allocate inventory in real time in response to demand and inventory information. We propose practical, useful policies and discuss their effectiveness.
